I interned at Silver Lane in 2014 and had a great experience. Everybody there works hard, but the analysts work on live deals almost immediately. I have a few friends at BB shops and as far as I can tell, the analysts at SL get more hands-on experience.
Never had to work on pitchbooks (whew!). During the interview process, they told me that they do almost no marketing. They seem to get a lot of referrals. I was a little skeptical in the interview but it turned out to be true.
Probably my biggest job was researching deals that the analysts would end up inputting into there transaction database. It didn’t bother me because it helped me understand who the buyers are and how deals are structured. But I could see it getting a little tedious if that’s all I did. The analysts were pretty good about asking for help on live deals. A lot of Powerpoint in the beginning but then more in terms of financial modeling after I got a better hang of it.
