Is it an advantage or disadvantage to Skype a Superday?
Should I fly for 20 hours and interview in the opposite timezone, or interview through Skype? I feel like both have merit. If it matters, the firm is my top choice.

Hong Kong to New York, with a transfer in Shanghai.
Try flying direct? Hong Kong to Newark and JFK are both direct flights with United and Cathay Pacific respectably. The latter is definitely much more comfortable but possibly pricier. Give these a shot and see if they are around the same price as a stopover in Shanghai
Skype SuperDay - optional? advice? (Originally Posted: 10/13/2017)
All- I received a superday invitation today from a big bank and the email informed me that the superday will be conducted on Skype. I'm an undergrad student only a few hours away from NYC and would love to actually go to the city and meet people, shake hands, use my personality to my advantage, etc. Do you think requesting to come to the bank would be out of place?
Assuming the superday will be conducted via skype, anyone have advice or opinions on how to prepare for a Skype superday differently than a normal superday?
Thanks
You should fly in. I cannot think of any real advantage to a Skype interview, other than you saving some time. The point of a superday is to meet the candidates in person. Sure, you can quasi meet people in person on Skype, but it just isn't the same.
If its possible I would try and find a way to do this in person. Bellow is a solid thread about the pros and cons of the Skype Superday. Hope this helps.

Superday vs Video Conference (Originally Posted: 04/12/2017)
I recieved an invite to a superday (they only have 1 day), but I have a midterm on the same day, so the company offered a video conference instead. Additionally, I'd have to miss 2-3 days of classes.
Will I be at a disadvantage compared to people that go in-person? Should I still try to convince my professor to let me do a makeup and attend in-person?
Fly in. Meeting in person leaves a more lasting impression.
Any advice soon would be great please :D
ask to take the mid term early and go in person contingent upon that
Okay, I'm going to talk to my professor again. Does it really matter (ex. put me at a disadvantage) if I do video instead?
Fly in if they're paying for the flight.
Never heard of a firm paying for a ~$1,500 flight during a superday lol
that ticked me off - literally never heard of a BB flying in international candidates for intern positions. Superdays with the local team/Skype interviews is pretty much the norm. If they offer to fly you in, you pretty much have to accept (or, if you are not motivated, decline the superday).
most BB in HK hire globally. they fly their superday candidates from all over the world.
I would fly. One issue with Skype (especially international) is potential call/video quality. While obviously it's totally not within your control, a spotty quality call will unfortunately make for a harder interview in terms of connecting (no pun intended) with your interviewers. Personally, I don't think it's a risk taking.
It's the city of the future, Hank.
Also: fly in.
I would say that there's one major disadvantage to flying in: jet lag. If you can't sleep on the plane and can't fly in a few days early, you could be very jet lagged, which obviously puts you at a mental disadvantage.
If they pay - fly. If they don't skype, unless you have another reason to visit but doesn't sound like you do.
Fly in to the superday - literally. Find out approximately where in the building your interviews are supposed to begin, and then parachute from a small plane at an angle such that you crash through the glass wall and tumble up to your first interviewer, unhooking your parachute and offering your hand for a firm shake all in one smooth motion. That kind of dramatic entrance will earn you some brownie points and give you an edge over other candidates

To do it correctly, you must also leave via skyhook, like so:
