Slow Weeks?
After an insanely busy January, I have had an eerily quiet February. Last week I totaled about 5 hours of work excluding calls, and this week is looking similar. It seems like the rest of the team is busy (or at least busier than I am). I know that the occasional day or two of no deliverables is normal, but should I be concerned that it has been multiple weeks? I haven't gotten any negative feedback and my bank is not having mass layoffs or anything...but it is just weirding me out.
I wouldnt stress too much, your staffer knows. Deals ebb and flow, enjoy the downtime now because in a week it could be you who is insanely busy and your co-workers who get a bit of a break.

I hope you realize the sarcasm from others... google it
You're a fucking spastic.
Nope same here. Completely normal - ebbs and flows but I will saw if you see something come up raise your hand
Hahaha one time i didn't cherish and stupidly asked for a staffing. After 5 minutes of working on a new task, one of my deals blow up because the client happened to be awake at 10pm asking for some BS precedent transactions stuff the next morning. Good times.
Please enjoy it. Banking has created this toxic mentality among the juniors that if you aren't grinding, something is wrong. Work shouldn't always be like that. I'm sure you'll get crushed again soon enough.
Haha yeah enjoy this time. I remember my first week on the job...pulled an all-nighter the first day and 85 hours total for the week right out of training. Then 2 weeks later the deal died, and I worked like <50 hours / week for a solid month before things hit the fan again.
rip he died
Ah I guess the less-than sign must be some code thing, because it cuts my comment off there, but meant to say "less-than 50 hours for a month"
Staffer is generally aware. A good staffer will try to build this in as well when someone is coming down off a project or two that constantly was a fire drill. More than two or three “easy” weeks is a bit out of the ordinary for my group, but enjoy it before you’re back to 90+hr weeks.
Don't sweat it and don't let anyone know you have plenty of bandwidth. You'll get crushed again when the time comes.
If that persists and you think you're getting slowly put on the sidelines maybe talk to your stuffer.
But remember, always act busier than you actually are, to the extend possible tho, don't overdo it.
You learn to take advantage of the slow weeks - you'll understand (and feel less guilty about it) when you're getting your stool packed and hit hour 60 of consciousness/no sleep, especially if it's a client making your life miserable and not an MD.
I went through the exact same thing 2 months ago. Got crushed by BS work soon and noted myself to never complain about downtime again.
start clearing your virtual desk and applying for corp dev roles. lol
