Anybody ever had work cancelled because of snow?

Philly just got 23.2 in of snow! That's usually what we get in an entire winter!

How often do employers say "Ya know if ya can't make it in, don't worry about it."?

This can go two ways, depending on how miserable your bank is. Most will cancel work and give you the day off, although you will probably still be expected to answer emails and move a few things forward from home.

At some places though, even if the "official" policy is that the bank is closed on that day, you'll be required to come in anyway - same principal as a lot of those bank "holidays" that we dont' really get off.

I don't think I've ever seen someone in a suit wearing "snow boots" in nyc before. I imagine those being large mountainous boots. You can just get weather sleeves to go over your shoes or wear a pair of sneakers and put them in a bag. I assume you're carrying your resume in something correct?

Made the fatal mistake of going out to get lunch today; literally could not cross the street because there was a pile of snow atop a 6ft wide puddle on the curb. Had to get a running start and jump the bastard.

I got stuck on the beach ... overwhelming sunshine and warm weather just drew me in. Couldn't stop it. Maybe I'll do some work tomorrow...

I did take a moment to check the flight schedule at Logan Airport. New England must be getting KILLED --- almost every damn flight is canceled. Best of luck to those of you traveling this season.

MUST BE NICE, C. ;)

Good luck getting back - It's a mess here.

I was able to fly back yesterday (just as snow was starting to come down). Trekked through to get to my office. Thankfully, I live close.

I've still got another week before I head back. Took a very extended Christmas break! Hopefully the snowstorm will have subsided by then.

You're lucky to have gotten back yesterday. My brother flew out of Logan yesterday afternoon and after some delays, he was pretty much one of the last to make it out.

I couldn't make it in today. NJ Transit's running on an "Enhanced Weekend" Schedule and I can't get out of the driveway to even make it to the train station.

Everywhere is shut down. HerSerendipity, good for you making it home. Better glad to be home now than stuck somewhere, particularly when flights will be backed up until Thursday without any questions.

28 inches here. I walked outside to shovel my car out, and the snow was up to my knees and the sidewalks and the roads had not even been plowed yet. I turned right back around and went to sleep for a couple more hours

Woke up at 4:45 and the exact same thing happen.

Solid foot-plus in the city here... My senior associate got stuck trying to fly into Logan and won't be back until late today/tomorrow AM, MD is on vacation, so I am "working" from home today. City is too much of a disaster to even consider going in.

CB, I think this may be the third or fourth time I've announced my jealousy over the past few days. What I'd do to be on a beach right now...

Caught one of the very last flights into LaGuardia on Sunday- standby with no frequent flyer status.

Got home, bought a boatload of food and beer just in case this lasts a few days.

Got up at 5:30. Trudged through the snow (backwards- 50 mph wind gusts with sandpaper-hard snow) 1/4 mile to the train station. Security Guard was laughing at me saying I was crazy.

Walked 16 blocks after it was clear my connecting train wasn't coming.

Got to work at 7.

Kinda reminds me of winter camping in Michigan.

In Paris and supposed to be heading to the US this week. There's been major problems at CDG from snow because the French haven't invested in weatherproofing their airport -> all the flights got backed up -> and now, of course, the fucking workers have started striking. The past couple days have been relatively clear weather-wise, but I'm pessimistic as to whether or not I'll realistically be stateside by the end of the week.

Shit. I'm heading back there on Thursday. I hope they've unfucked the situation by then. I'm going through ATL, so there shouldn't be any problem there. I heard CDG was shut down because they didn't have de-icing fluid? WTF???

I was supposed to have a first round phone interview with someone in New York. It has been a half an hour and I am starting to wonder if the weather is the reason for me not getting called?
