So how do I find a job?

My recruiting season so far has been quite unsuccessful, despite an exhausting amount of attempts, and I haven't managed to find a position yet, so I have a serious question. How do I find a job? I am graduating from a non target this fall and have several internships, but none of them are investment banking. Networking opportunities at my school are very minimal and the university career site doesn't have much either.

It seems that my only option is to continue applying online, but the consensus for this is that the odds for a call back for a non target are low. So back to my original question, how do I find a job? What do I do now?

Am I just supposed to sit home and apply online hoping that something comes through with these low odds? Is it possible that I may never find anything by simply doing this? I am not set on specifically investment banking anymore, I would be perfectly happy with leadership development programs at F500, commercial banking, or anything like that. I am mainly just determined to avoid back office type roles now.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

You need to network, network, network. Informational interviews are key, shake as many hands and meet with as many people in IB, PE, HF, AM, etc as you can. Follow up with banks in your area, seek out MM/boutique banks, and stay on top of it asking around. Many smaller banks do recruiting out of season and larger banks may decide to hire more analysts in the next few months. Make sure you stay on top of all your contacts and keep pushing forward.

Claiming that your school has poor networking opportunities means you haven't hit it hard enough. Just because odds are low doesn't mean its impossible, don't fall into the trap of making excuses why you can't get a job. Times are tough I know, but if you really want to break into Investment Banking, strive to defy the odds.
