Societe Generale GLBA? Not seen much discussion on them
what is everyone's thoughts on SocGen 'global banking and advisory' division?
i dont see much of them mentioned on here. im particularly interested in their Europe presence (probably why they're not mentioned much)
what do the coverage teams do within SG (healthcare, TMT, etc) that aren't done by the product team (M&A, ECM) etc?
or are the product teams split by sector (like 'industrials DCM' or 'FIG ECM')?
any thoughts on this?
Decent balance sheet bank imo. Some product groups cover specific sectors (seen FIG M&A and a few others like it). Pay is below street from what I've heard.
London: PUI M&A, TMT M&A, O&G M&A, FIG M&A. They have some coverage teams (sponsors, NatRes, Industrials) but its pure relationship management style, small teams, top heavy, no heavylifting on any deals.
London ECM was dispatched at some point in late 2018/early 2019. Best teams are LevFin, Project Fin, PUI M&A and maybe FIG.
Weak in London, decent in France (mostly BS stuff)
US:
Super top heavy. I left the bank in 2016, and at the time many parts of the bank were performing poorly and subsidized by the French office.
The only two groups that are good within Soc Gen is Equity Derivatives (breaking in is insanely difficult) and is probably the best on the street, the other great group is MM Leveraged Finance (One of the top players, have constant deal flow. I've noticed most people in this group went to Duke.). All other groups have pretty bad deal flow, but you're still getting paid decently and doing 9-8 which imo is amazing.
I've seen some great exit opportunities from Soc Gen, such as Apollo, Carlyle, Golub, hedge funds, so if you're a good candidate and put in the work I think the sky is the limit.
Equity Derivatives team at this bank named Society? General? is best on this street and you can expect coverage group to exit MF? What are you on, dude
French banks are known for strong Equity Derivatives teams with posh French Ecole maths grads (at least in EU).
I think he's referring to LevFin exits which are indeed decent for SG. Prolly not straight to Buyside but with a stepping stone in between (which I think is fairly doable for strong performers).
Know a guy in London: LevFin -> GS MDB Special Sits -> Apollo
That guy is an obvious troll
If you're referring to the US guy, he's exaggerating on the exits indeed, but the rest is more or less accurate. If you're referring to me, I can assure you I'm not, I know what I'm talking about on the comment above.
