Software Career Change to IB
Hi Guys
I searched the forum but was not able to get answer to my situation. Need some professional help. I am 29 and have 5 years of experience in software development. Currently I want to move out of support role (more of a career change) and work in finance. My financial situation does not allow me to attend School full time. I am more inclined towards Executive MBA in top ten business schools. I read couple of forums outside of wallStOasis and found that EMBA does not help in career change. Also my priority is breaking into IB and becoming an Associate. I am open to other options as well.
Any thoughts, anyone was able to switch careers after EMBA ?
Thanks in Advance.
What type of company do you work at? And what are your main responsibilities at work? Do you have a leadership role?
If you're at fortune 500 tech company doing meaningful software development you might be in good shape.
Why not just shift to being a quantitative developer? Here in NYC, they are desperate to find folks- and the offers I am seeing are starting to match and even sometimes exceed those of bankers. On Wall Street, there's a 15% unemployment rate for traders and bankers, and a 1.5% unemployment rate for programmers in certain fields right now.
If you've got a background in Java or C++, and you're strong with algorithms, shoot me a PM. There seems to be a desperate bidding war for competent developers going on right now- with salaries for guys with three or four years of experience starting to exceed comps for associates in banking. Wall Street is turning into an analytical arms race on the trading side, and frankly, it's becoming more profitable to be a weapons dealer than a marine.
