software development projects (apps) on resume to get into an internship
I currently live in New Zealand and I'm hoping of getting into a Goldman Sachs/UBS internship here in New Zealand. Their offices here are rather small with about 100 employees. I have noted on LinkedIn that many of the people currently working there all did an internship at Goldman Sachs in New Zealand.
One notable thing all these people did before they even got the internship is that they did something with their lives and were part of some small start-up/project relating to finance and investment. For example, one person 'partnered' with a venture capital start-up of 5 people that aims of finding investors for young people with start-up ideas. This is one of many examples, but the general consensus is that these people went out and did something. Now my grades aren't the best of the best but I manage with a B+ and A- average as a first-year university student studying a double degree in computer science and finance.
I figured I want to do this too, so I've drafted an app idea relating to portfolio and investment management of stocks, crypto, ETF's, commodities, bonds, etc. that can be imported from other services coinbase, NZ equivalent of Robinhood (sharsies), etc. Now it's probably been done before, but I haven't seen a simple one targeting retail investors with a simple UI. Even if there is one, I don't aim of creating a revolutionary start-up based around this, but more of a large project relating to investment and asset management if you may, but I'd be the founder of this little 'organization'.
Anyways, do you think that developing something like this as a comp sci/finance student should be sufficient in getting noticed in the application process of hiring an intern, or am I simply wasting my time?
mistermcsenpai, pure crickets, that's where I come in. Any of these useful?
