Someone please explain
Can someone please explain to me what corporate banking is and how it's different from investment banking? I can't find a lot of information on it in the search bar or really anywhere online. I found a few salary threads but that's about it. Appreciated.
not an expert but i'll give it a try based on what i learned during recruiting -- corporate bankers are relationship builders, they help with "everyday" financing needs. an example i was told is if a manufacturing company wants to go buy a major plant or facility or something and they don't already have the liquidity, they might go to a corporate bank and the bank will lend to them for that purchase (similar to how if an individual needs money for a major purchase, they might get a loan from the bank). versus investment bankers would help that manufacturing company with larger scale strategic investments such as buying another firm or divesting part of their business. there's def more to it but that's what i was told
Corporate bankers tend to also try to build long term relationships with specific companies for their deal origination.
Sure, I'll bite on this
Corporate banking helps out corporations with fundraising and debt, investment banking helps them with investing and managing their investments.
