sophomore at target, scrambling

Hey guys,

My brother's a sophomore at one of HYP. He's on a varsity team there, 3.5 in econ, really social guy (he'll interview very well.) He's looking for places to apply and he'll definitely use career services but where else should he be looking? He said that the vast majority of stuff on there is for juniors and he wants to have a leg up on the competition next year by having a solid internship this year.

For what it's worth, he'd look into banking/hedge funds/anything finance-related. I've done some googling but haven't come up with anything that substantive. I'll give him a list of places to apply from my school's career services but other than that, I'd love some recs.

Thanks in advance,
Yodaddy

Tell him to start reaching out to alumni. If he keeps at it, there is no reason why he shouldn't be able to yield something from the HYP alumni network. If you want more info on how to go about doing it, feel free to pm me.

Also, tell him to send his resume out to every MM/Boutique financial firm. You would be surprised how powerful a HYP name could be.

Thoughts on the best way to reach out to boutique firms?

He can compile a list but it seems like calling is better than emailing...also, I'm not sure how he should pitch himself to them (especially if they don't have formal internship programs)...

Seems like finding really small firms would be a great way to do this because they may care about getting an unpaid intern to do gruntwork whereas a big firm doesn't care about dropping 15k on an intern...
