Sophomore Summer Wealth Management Help

On the hunt for a sophomore summer internship still...
A little bit about me: Non-target school, 3.4 GPA (didn't do a well first semester of my freshman year), and no relative internship experience.
I have been networking with banks for a few months now, gaining a bit of traction and ultimately want to set myself up for junior year investment banking recruitment.
But, an opening at a boutique investment bank for a wealth management position opened and I want to go for that. Position only requires resume and cover letter, and I wanted to know the best approach to ensure I get an interview coming from a non-target. People on here say it's easy to get a WM position, but how should I ensure I get an interview?
There's a few alumni working at this bank, how should I send out emails to get my name in the interview pool? Should I cold call? Should I reach out to the MD of the wealth management group even though he's not an alumnus? Ultimately, I just want to know what I should say in a desperate situation like this. Should I attach my resume to emails?
I would really appreciate the help.
