Sophomore Unpaid Internship Search
Hey all,
I am a sophomore at a strong non-target from the NYC/CT area. I just recently took a strong interest in banking and am now scrambling for an unpaid internship for the summer of 2018, as I know that without it 2019 will be tough for me. Any ideas? Just trying to learn. I am studying quantitative finance and business analytics.

Put together a list of all the boutiques in the area and start reaching out to them about opportunities to intern.
To your point, it's getting close to summer, so you've got to do this pretty quickly. At the same time, I would consider casting a wider net of various finance internships. At this point, the most important thing is that you have some kind of relevant work experience this summer (doesn't necessarily have to be banking)

I networked into a BB (unpaid full time) in San Francisco as a sophomore community college student. Currently speaking with banks for 2019 as I transferred to one of the top Undergrad Business programs in California.
Its a fucking grind. But after sending out over 60 applications, I made it. You're kind of late for the summer, but keep trying.
I'm in the same area of NYC/CT and can tell you from experience that as others have mentioned here, you have to just reach out. But as orangemarker mentioned, you should compile a list and reach out to them so you have a more organized way of contacting them. It will definitely be a lot easier to get into a boutique firm in Greenwich, Stamford, Westport, etc. than in NYC. Luckily, I was able to get one in NYC so it's not impossible but you've got to start reaching out today.

I am going to be a junior at college and it was difficult for me to find IB relevant internships that pay. I ended up accepting a part-time unpaid internship in a really small investment bank in the greater Boston area. Do you think I should mention the fact that it was part-time or unpaid in interviews or just state it was an internship and let the interviewer assume it was full-time & paid?
