South Florida
Planning to move to South Florida from NYC for at least a year. Love TriBeca so prefer something similar that's quiet and walkable (not suburb). Any suggestions? What are some drawbacks to consider - lack of career opportunities, real estate prices at peak if I were to buy a condo / apt etc. Heard good things about edgewater. Single but not into club / bar scenes at all; early 30s if this matters

only vacationed in Miami and Boca, so can't give a locals perspective but please report back, I know a trader who itching to do the same
Honored to have been paged. I am not a Miami local, but am actively looking to move there myself and typically spend ~20-30 nights there on any given year. That being said, I can’t begin to make recommendations without knowing where you’d be working. If you want something quiet and walkable, I’d venture that Coral Gables is a decent spot, but it’s not the closest to Miami and more of a suburb. Also, if you lived there but worked in Brickell, you’re not going to have a chill commute. I personally am looking in Brickell, but that assumes I would get a job in Brickell or would be fine to buy a car and have to “reverse commute” to somewhere because my assumption is most people commute to Brickell for work. Within Brickell, it’s not going to be a quiet area per se, it’s a city vibe. That being said, I am definitely looking into Brickell Key which seems to be quiet and safe, and relatively walkable to the rest of Brickell. You’d have to walk across bridge and I HAVE NOT BEEN to Brickell Key, but it’s where I’m looking personally. You could go down and stay at the Mandarin Oriental which I believe is the only hotel on that key if you wanted to check it out. Edgewater I have heard good things about but have not been there either. Sorry to let you down!
Initially was thinking you wanted to live in or around Miami. Coral gables is a good bet if generally looking for south Florida. Expanding to all of South Florida, I would definitely consider Fort Lauderdale or around there, which has enough going on but isn’t so crazy. Walkable and not super expensive. I am looking for miami because I actually want to live there but FLL is much better for most people
Dixie Highway in Boca
I grew up there, and people are shallow af.
