South Florida - Career Switch?

Hey guys, I am like a year away from finishing my MRED degree part-time in South Florida, been studying for 2 years. The whole time I have been networking and talking to industry leaders about whether moving from architecture to development is a solid plan and how to do it, and I get great feedback about being on the right track, and how valuable architects are to developers looking for talent that can wear many hats. However when rubber meets the road and I need to get hired, it seems the only opportunities for me are minimum wage internships - everyone else seems to want 2-3 years of banking or financial experience to even be considered. Anyone else going through this? I can't really afford such a pay cut from working full time and am trying to think of how to get started on my development career.

It feels like many of the people at my firm who started as development associates had architecture backgrounds and then did MSRE/D programs. I think this is common at many development shops. Getting hired in development is not easy, period. You need to work hard at it for sure to stay on top of opportunities and meet the players. Sounds like you are doing that, but know you background and path is one many have followed.

Thanks, I was concerned my background was holding me back but hopefully I’ll find an opportunity for an associate position willing to give me a chance - I actually really enjoy the finance but what really gets me excited is combining it with imagining the investment as a place people want to be and the impact it would have on a city
