Sponsors for SA/FT in NY/London for International from outside
Hi, first time posting here. I am currently studying in Asia and really interested in exploring opportunities in NY/London. I understand it's definitely very hard to justify the move to places I have no connection with, especially for the sponsorship since I'm not a citizen/PR and I don't study there. But I feel like working in the hubs is definitely an experience in itself, bearing the cons (taxes, friends). Previously did 2 BB internships (1 IB, 1 S&T) in the region.
So far the options are:
1. Get into the industry here first, then internally transfer later
* Currently waiting for 2021 FT conversion from 2020 SA
* Mostly see people going from NY/London to Asia, instead of the other way around (which also tends to be a few years only, then back to Asia)
2. Try to recruit for 2021 Summer in NY/London for IB & S&T
* Can afford another year of recruiting, but would be at a disadvantage since have very little network from school. Could probably ask previous colleagues, since there's a few people who transferred from NY/London, but unsure of the implications
* For sponsorships, which banks tend to be more generous? I feel they would also differentiate internationals who study there vs. those coming from outside
* Considering to move to buy-side later on (some HFs are more generous in sponsorships afaik), but maybe not now because I don't feel qualified and would prefer to build foundations in sell-side first
3. Get a master in the US/UK
* I feel this is very expensive in terms of both time and money, which I am very unwilling to spend
I feel that #1 is the safest given the current environment, but was wondering if there could be a possibility of success for #2 i.e. know anyone who had a similar experience. How would you navigate this and why? Any other advice/perspective is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
