S&T Analyst to IB Associate

Has anyone had any experience moving from a S&T analyst position to an IB associate position? Either at the same bank or a different one, doesn't really matter. I've accepted a S&T internship at a BB and I'd like to work in the field for a couple years but I'm curious if I'm essentially pigeonholing myself. I understand that I could go back and get an MBA but would a bank see the S&T experience as enough to warrant an associate position? I can't imagine I would be less prepared than the ones they hire directly out of an MBA program.

Btw I have used the search function but it seems most people are asking how they can convert the internship to IB full-time, which is something I don't really want to do.

Is there a year that the IBD has a preference for? I imagine it would look bad to be networking for the switch in my first year. Would getting the A to A promotion help me come in as an Associate to IBD? It seems silly to me that they would take an MBA over someone who has experience in the bank, just in a different division. Do you think moving to Capital Markets would be easier?

I wouldn't say everyone in S&T wants to move to IBD. A lot of people, myself included, enjoy the markets and the people who work in them. I know in my last internship the IB interns were all pretty jealous of the S&T hours and Bloomberg terminals. Not saying one is better than the other, just different.
