S&T Internship Possible as a Sophomore?
Hey Guys,
I'm currently a rising sophomore and would ultimately like to land a S&T gig next year. I don't mind the location the job is in (would this help?) and have a good amount of Private Equity experience up to this point. Is is feasible for a sophomore to land a S&T job? I know S&T is the most sought after position, and that banks usually reserve the spots for juniors. But does this mean they don't take any sophomores?
Here is a link to my resume to show my qualifications:

*The red numbers need to be verified and that’s why they're red
*I interned at both private equity firms for 2 years at a time.
* I still need to find a place to list that I founded a squash program for low income students around my college
Thanks for the help
While the majority of S&T class for SA at BB are juniors(rising seniors), they do have some sophomores (rising juniors). I can't give the exact split, but somewhere 90, 10% or 80, 20%. I think BB always try to hire some rising juniors so it is definitely feasible, but you are competing against fewer spots for a summer internship that is already challenging to land.
The tri bullet is a little tough on the eyes is general response. Keep to only two different types of bullets imo.
Your degree from UVA will be in Commerce & Economics, not Finance & Economics.
In that case, how do I list the concentration in finance?
Bachelor of Science in Commerce & Economics, Concentration: Finance
Add May to Expected 2015. You're in line for Intermediate Honors, right? Put that on there if so.
I'll look over it more when I have time.
Thanks for the help SEC!
If you have a connection anything is possible.
Sophomore in BB S&T (Originally Posted: 02/12/2010)
So I was lucky enough to receive a BB S&T offer as a sophomore at a lower tier BB. However, my dream is to work in the buyside (DE Shaw, Citadel, etc.) out of college.
1) Is there anything I can do over this summer (specific groups to try to work for, people to try to network with) to try to hop over to the buyside next summer or for full-time recruiting? 2) Do sophomores at BBs usually come back to the same BB junior year? Isn't doing the same internship twice kind of repetitive? This is not a sophomore program, I went through regular junior recruiting.
Not trying to sound unthankful for how lucky I am to have an offer, but I was just wondering how I could leverage this into getting my dream job.
attend some info sessions or networking events for ur dream firms or call up alum at those places... just keep in touch casually...
complete ur stint... leverage to better BB or firm junior year... > leverage for FT - ur good to go..
BE GRATEFUL U INGRATE
You should also network within your firm, a lot of people have contacts on the buy side, esp. the Sales people.
What is a lower tier BB?
Thanks for the advice Lady Eva, I'll make sure to do that. Anybody else?
