S&T vs Asset Management

Hi. I'm a second year uni student in the UK studying economics and finance, not sure which direction to head in.

A few years ago I wanted to break into IBD, but I am now looking for something with a slightly better WLB. I've also started to prefer going down the route of a more client-facing role.

I'm not that experienced with the technicals of IB, but I can say that I'm not a fan of complex mathematics. I can manage, but I don't love it. I would definitely prefer a sales role over a role with heavy technical emphasis.

I've read that AM has a better WLB than IB, but I get conflicting information about how client-facing it is. Is AM or S&T more client-facing? (From a sales perspective.)

How complex are the technicals in S&T? Compared to AM? Also, how does the work-life balance compare between S&T and AM? Is the WLB of S&T more similar to that of IBD? I know AM is more lax in that regard. Some information on the difference in comp would also be greatly appreciated.

I like that S&T is more fast-paced rather than AM which seems to be more slow, detailed research.

TLDR: Which is more client-facing, complexities in the technicals, comp differences etc.

Thanks for the guidance in advance.
