I do not have any modelling experience, during the internship I mostly did profiles/comps/simple financial analysis and did not really touch a proper model. Is this the standard for SA as well?
Most SAs have some exposure to the actual model, but your experience isn't uncommon.
GS7:
I understand the fundamentals and assumptions behind a DCF model (not so comfortable with lbo models), but have no actual experience in building one. Would you guys recommend I learn how to properly model before joining as an analyst or is the training provided to analysts far better than anything I can learn by myself. Are analysts expected to model from day one after they finish their training, or is it more of a gradual process?Thank you very much for this!

I was a liberal arts student, definitely look into Training the Street's entry-level self-study classes. Definitely worth the expense
Just study using macabacus.com
These paid courses you see should be a last resort.
Agreed, no need to spend money. Also was a liberal arts student.
Thanks guys. What was your experience starting as analysts, when did you actually start modelling by yourselves?
