Starting in IB with no experience - help!
Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I am currently pursuing an MBA at a top European b-school and want to break into IB. I have no previous experience in investment banking nor in management consulting (some commercial banking and entrepreneurship). I am trying to apply to MM firms in which I think I have better chances. Could you share some advice? Names of firms where I would have better chances are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
If I'm honest, your starting point is not great. The European IB scene is very competitive and they massively favour hires with deal experience or relevant industry experience (given that you apply for a sector team).
Are you an EU-citizen and looking to work in the EU? There are loads of MM firms around in Europe, but they tend to be very local. William Blair, Oaklins, Lazard MM, Houlihan, PJT, Jefferies are all present in EU MM as well.
Ask your career service at the school - all top programs should have a fair overview of their local job market.
Thanks for the comment Quilt, especially for the list of firms (will research!). I do have EU citizenship. My school, unluckily, isn't very helpful with MM firms, mostly focused on BB which only recruit through internships.
