Starting IT consulting as an intern after five years in healthcare (HELP!!)
Hi all,
I am new to this forum and am seeking any advice you guys can provide regarding the the information posted below. If you guys are aware of any other forums where this topic of conversation would be more appropriate please drop a comment below. Thanks in advance!
Brief professional background:
I have been working as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant for almost five years now. I have worked in skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, hospitals, and in home health settings. At the same time, I was attending a university in VA, working on my Bachelors degree in Applied Information Technology. I have now secured an internship at Booz Allen Hamilton for the summer and am hoping to receive a full time offer after the internship is over. However, I am still not sure what career path to pursue in information technology given my background.
Questions:
-
Given that I have a background in healthcare, is there a certain career path in IT consulting that I can pursue in which my health care experience will be useful and give me some leverage in matters of salary? Hoping that my five years in healthcare don't go to waste.
-
Is there a specific area of consulting where there is a need for individuals who have actual clinical experience and technical knowledge?

I understand that Booz Allen is big on tech consulting. However, is it a good place to start out if you are still developing your technical skills? Is there room for growth for individuals in technology consulting at firms such as Booz Allen?
