State School, No Finance Experience, Critque my resume please!
Been a long time reader, but this is my first post. Love the site, I have learned a lot from everybody on here. I just finished the first draft of my resume and was wondering what you guys think. Let me have it! Looking for comments on the format and content of my resume as well as your overall impression of me as a candidate for jobs. Thanks
What positions are you targetting? With a 3.1 from University at Buffalo as a Junior with no relevant finance experience it will be a miracle to get into banking. Try to network for a boutique internship this summer and you could possibly leverage that for FT. Is your major GPA any better? Try listing that.
Your best bet may be to go for an MSF if you really want to get into banking with your current experience. Good luck.
I've only completed one finance class so far so I feel like I could not justify putting my major GPA on there. Unless I should include all School of Management classes for major GPA?
The format seems pretty solid. I think you can use a few more things listed on your "Technical Skills" and maybe include somewhere about certain extracurricular clubs you're active in that relate to finance.
No offense homie, but the fact that you double spaced (or 1.5) your resume leads me to believe you're not really a long-time reader.
Perhaps it's just a razume glitch though...
I know it looks like its spaced 1.5 but it's really not. When it prints out its single spaced, not sure why it looks like that.
Isn't is "Bachelor's degree"?
Get rid of extra commas after "events" and "cooking."
Attention to detail is big.
lol
Agree with above. Tighten the spacing, and drop the honor list bullet -- it just underscores the fact that you did not make honor list for all the other semesters.
Also, you are young. Consider doing a finance master's, or any masters, hitting a strong GPA, and recruiting then.
Yeah that "deans list for one semester" really sticks out like a sore thumb. I would can that statement. I mean 1 semester out of 8......All that says is you got lucky one semester and doesn't do you any good. Good luck man.
Agree with 1man2nv, "One semester on dean's list" is def not a good look.
Need higher GPA, more relevant coursework, and hopefully some type of internship/work experience in finance.
Get rid of the dean's list statement.
Work on the GPA, take relevant classes, maybe think about CFA round 1 if you are really ambitious. besides that, network and try to get any type of intern or something.
Still some time left, good luck !
P.S. backpacking through europe that sounds awesome.
Only one bank recruits out of SUNY Buffalo in their Buffalo, NY Office. They only take the top 8 kids every year. That means 4.0 GPA, Delta Sigma Pi, previous internships, double major in finance/ accounting / economics.
Dude, if you don't land an internship/ improve your gpa, seriously consider transferring or looking for better graduate options.
