Staying in Banking: Thoughts?

Currently at a top group in which most people end up going to PE / HF. I have noticed that A2As are very respected, move up very quickly and have huge age advantages vs MBA assocs which set them up for success (higher chance of promotion etc.).

In PE, it seems as if even at the MF level, it is tough to rise up in the industry. Any A2As have experience staying on and if they regret their decision? I am pretty indifferent between buyside and IBD and want to optimize for money / upward mobility.

If you could see yourself happy in the shoes of your VP, SVP, and MD - stay in banking. If that scares the sh*t out of you and you want to be an investor / have a little more optionality - go to PE.

If you're still trying to figure out what you want to do and enjoy your group / sector - stay in banking and ride the wave for another couple of years.
