Stephens does internships??
Think so: relatively new I think though
Did anyone finish the phone screen for FT and heard back? Was wondering what the timeline was looking for that.
I had a phone screen already after applying for FT. Was asked all behavioral, felt more like a conversation to be honest.
Which office was this for and when do you expect to hear back on if you will be moving forward?
Is there an online application or did phone screens just come about through networking?
mine came through networking
How was the screen? I have one coming up
Screen is fairly simple. Walk through resume, why IB, why Stephens, can you describe investment banking. Hardest question I got was briefly ways you could value a company.
awesome, thanks for sharing! good luck to you in terms of moving forward
did they ask any markets related questions?
Thanks for sharing
My screen was insanely technical. Started with talking about my background and a little bit of small talk and went right into the technicals.
Gnarly. My first screen was pretty technical but they were really easy. Second interview had some technicals but I could tell they really care about the culture and put more weight on that.
I didn’t get 100% of the technicals right in my second interview but I’m moving to the third round sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Mine was as well. I'm sure we talked to the same guy because apparently none of the other analysts got too crazy
Yeah, unfortunately, it's the reality of things. Did the best I could and hopefully he was able to understand that
Same here, went crazy on the techincals and asked like 2 behaviorals
Sorry to hear that everyone. Curious to know if tough technicals was for FR or SA and if it was through general application? It may have been because of connection, but my screens were pretty much all behavioral and moving on.
it was for SA and it was through connection, it was shocking since you dont expect first rounds to be heavy on techical
yeah that’s tough. What sort of stuff were you asked?
simple ones were walk me through all of the valuation and accounting but it got tougher as they dived deep into it, if you review all of it and how the valuations work you wll get it.
Mine started with him asking about valuation methods and which ones use multiples. It then got pretty heavy into LBO's. Know dilution vs accretion. Also, how all the ins and outs of which valuation methods & terminal value methods provide the highest and lowest values.
SO I read what you wrote about the multiple vs perpetuity method and you said the answer was perpetuity bcuz of market premium. Shouldn't it be the other way around and the exit multiple being higher due to a market premium when comparing it to peers?
I believe the answer is actually that the perpetuity method is generally higher because it assumes never-ending growth. I dont believe that it actually has much to do with premiums. Additionally, you do use multiples for precedent transactions. That is the whole point, you compare transactions, then apply their multiples to the companies current situation. I deleted most of the post because I reread it and felt it unintentionally sounded like I was bashing the analyst, which wasnt my intention. He was a cool guy. I just wanted to let people know the answers their interviewer might be looking for.
bump
Whats your situation? Waiting for phone screen results?
Edit: Nevermind, confused with another thread
Friend of mine just got a SD.
For FT or SA? And which office?
And was the SD invite right after the phone screen?
Was it for SA? how was it structured

Anyone have any insight on Stephens in general? What are they know for? Do they have good deal flow? That sort of thing

Stephens bump
only MM firm in little rock, arkansas lol
Just got a 2nd round, anyone else?
Congrats man, was it all behaviroals?
First round is all behavioral and easy technicals like walk me thru 3 financials
What office?
It’s office agnostic but they give you a preference of which office you want. I said nyc.
hey man can i PM you? I wanted to ask you about the interview
Sure, it wasn’t actually a 2nd round. I found out after doing it. There is a total of 4 rounds. ( 2 first round interviews - not actual interviews ) -> 2nd round -> super day.
me too. Finished the second round recently
How did the second round differ from the first? Have mine coming up in the next couple days heard they are doing a couple of phone screens before superdays etc.
can someone link me to the application?
How long was the wait time between finished first round and notified about second?
not sure had mines like 3 days ago still waiting
I heard shortly after the first round, definitely within three days.
I had NY first round and thought I did pretty well but havent heard back. its been like 4 days. anyone else?
Was this FT? I received word for a second round end of last week and finished the second round this week. Good luck
8/10 was my first round, 8/13 a second analyst reached out (but haven’t done an interview with him, oddly), 8/16 a third analyst reached out and had an interview with him today.
First interview was all behavioral, second was majority technical (although they were all pretty basic) with a few qualitative.
was it for SA?
Yes, SA
How was the third interview? technical? behavior? mix?
Received my second phone screen after an insanely technical first one
did they tell you it was a phone screen. I received an email but am not sure if its a second round.
define insanely technical. Mine was chill on techs
I got the walk me through your resume and 2 technicals the first was about WACC I admitted I didn’t know it and would learn it the second I did a DCF walkthrough and was told that it sounds right. He said that’s all I have for you and have a good day pretty much and hung up.... thinking that it’s GG for me.
Had 2 interviews so far. One last week one this week. The first one was mix of behavior and basic technicals. The second one was heavily technical, covering question on accounting, valuations, and outside of the guide questions. Anyone know any insights regarding the recruiting timeline?
Did you get a third round. And for what office? And any other info on the process you got from your interviewer on next steps?
NY. No update for 3rd round. The interviewer was quiet unsure regarding the next step. He said the firm would get back to me within a week or two.
Any idea on FT timeline? Have had screens with associate but wondering if anyone has heard much on next steps after that phase.
Did you get a third call yet?
Nope but was told I’d hear back end of August/early September to meet a higher up
bump. Anyone get a third call yet?
stephens bump
No updates regarding third call/ interview. The interviewer I had for my second round mentioned I would likely hear back within a weeks time-- this was on 8/16. I'm thinking they will likely be reaching out next week.
Was this for NY? And what did the interviewer ask you in the third call if you don't mind sharing?
I haven't had my third yet-- sorry if that wasn't clear. I'm expecting to hear about a potential third interview this next week.
... and yes, this was for NY SA.
I’ve had 2 interviews. The guy said I was gonna hear back after 4 days. I haven’t heard since. Anyone else hear the next interview?
For SA or FT?
SA
I heard back for third but this is for FT. So maybe slightly different process.
Which office was the call from?
I heard back today for my third interview, second interview was around yours
Had a third round last week. No update since.
was this for NY FT?
SA not FT
How did you think you did on your call? Mine was mostly technicals on a conceptual level. Did you get a time frame of when you would hear back?
I honestly feel like all of the technicals have been easy, but I’m comparing it to EBs I recruited for early in the process. I think I answered well enough to where people haven’t bothered to probe deeper.
IMO the bigger challenge has been showing that you fit in while still coming off as professional. I thought my 3rd round went great but I haven’t heard back in almost a week. The other interviews were scheduled within a few days of each other. I’m not the best person to ask since I haven’t heard back, but I think that after 3 screens we go to superday.
Update: Just had another analyst reach out for a third round that will take place Monday or Tuesday. The pace seems to be about 1 interview per week at this point. I'm hoping these phone screens will be over soon so we can get to the Superdays.
(This is for SA, NY office)
I've had a similar experience
As I'm sure many are studying for technical interviews, you can have your Alexa or Google Home quiz you. I recently added some free IB accounting and valuation quizzes that you can use and add to at Grillme https://grillme.dev/. Video of it:
. Hope this is helpful!Anyone not going for NY?
Yea got an email today for a 1st round virtual interview (not sure if video or phone) for their Atl office
Anyone here have a fourth phone screen yet?
I’ve had 4; had one last week. Heard back for a 5th one coming up in the next week or so.
Was 4th any different from the first 3? Or more of the same?
Had 4th interview today via Webex. Team getting together next week with Superdays to take place on September 19th.
Just had first round today for 2021 SA, 3 behaviour and the rest were all technical question
for NY office
How does Stephens NY exit? What would you say are comparable firms?
I'm not sure actually, I mainly target mid-market IB firms, also got DC Advisory's first round
When is ur DC Advisory first round? Is it the zoom interview?
To be very frank, I've never even heard of Stephens until it was on my school portal
Bro I have had like 6 phone screens can they please chill out
Saaaame
omg?? 6
did you phone screen with alumni
Is this for SA or FT?
Did anyone interview with the Dallas office yet?
Has anyone been invited to SD? Heard it was going to be on the 19th and that invites were to go out this week?
Likewise heard the 19th but haven't received any invite.
Which city?
Was told info about superdays would be emailed on the 12th but have yet to hear anything
Did anyone hear back regarding a superday for the Dallas office?
Has anyone heard anything regarding NY superdays
bump about superday
I had a phone screen with them while ago.
Accepted another job but they definitively already had 1st round.
Just got a call from NYC office. Superday on Sunday 9/20.
tell em to gimme a ring too
for SA or FT?
This question will be the death of me lol.
SA... as is expected when you post in the Stephens SA 2021 page. There is another page for FT.
Dude is this process over if I havent gotten a Super?
I assume so... unless they are doing additional super days on different weeks
Any word from their Atl office?
Just got a rejection email :(
same :/
If I got a rejection email, at least I could move on with my life... still radio silence
