Stern for undergraduate MBB placement?

anyone here have any thoughts about Stern for undergraduate MBB placement? I know it has an extremely strong track record for banking and general finance but can anyone give me a glimpse on recruitment and typical placement for consulting?

I am a freshman and have the option of transferring from a large typically non-target (for finance and consulting) state school where I have a full scholarship. It is possible to claw your way out (we've had a few alumni recently land a few roles) but overall extremely unlikely. Stern would create some loans but I'd be willing to take them for a higher chance at better employment placement.

A few go to MBB but not many. From what I've seen, it's a consequence of the student body being so finance focused. Less interest for consulting, so less interest from consulting firms. Definitely doable but most of the consulting placement is at Deloitte, EY-P, Accenture, and other T2 shops.

Stern places surprisingly poorly into consulting, maybe 2-3 MBB/year. From LinkedIn, looks like 2 going to BCG this year with no McK/Bain. A couple heading to D S&O. Probably a result of getting crowded out of NYC offices by top targets.

You may actually have a better shot from where you're currently at if you're there on a full ride (depending on how "non-target" it is). Feel free to PM, heading to MBB from a non-target and also considered transferring.

Building on this - would your current college place "naturally" in NYC or would you be closer to e.g. Boston/Chicago?

NYC is especially painful to recruit for, so you might possibly have a good shot from your current institution if you play your cards right.

NYU & Stern is not a big target for MBB though I think theres been more of a pick up recent years. If I had to to put a number on it, I would say it is still fairly low. There are ~2-4 SAs and maybe 3-5 FTs each year across all geographies and this is mainly for BCG & McKinsey.

There are schools that are not typically considered targets in finance that seem to place much better than NYU for MBB at least regionally (Indiana for Chicago, Georgia Tech / Emory for Atlanta, etc.) .

If i were you I would not take loans and transfer to Stern for MBB when you have a full ride at your state school. If it was for finance, I could see an argument but not for MBB. That said i think NYU does well at Deloitte S&O, Strategy& and others.

A lot of NYU people end up at Deloitte and Oliver Wyman (however you spell it)

Which state school? Will Stern give you some help? This is a tough one. Honestly, not having any debt after 4 years of school is a huge plus.
