Still apply to CF roles not marked as remote-eligible?
Hi All,
Just curious what people's experiences have been at this point in the pandemic regarding applying to jobs that are not explicitly marked as remote-eligible. It feels like certain companies are still making a fair amount of CF roles remote or hybrid but post-COVID they will require people to be in the office 2 or 3 days a week.
A few examples:
- Spotify (work from anywhere, but post-COVID they want people to pop into the office 2 or 3 days a week)
- Microsoft, Apple, Tesla (not seeing any remote CF roles at all, maybe some Audit)
- DocuSign (have seen a couple of CF roles that are fully remote)
For firms like Microsoft, Apple, and Tesla where there aren't many remote finance roles, is it still worth applying to a role that is not marked as remote?
I figure if the company thinks you're a good enough fit they may budge on location. However, given all the software companies use to sift through resumes, would you even reach the recruiter?
If the company has a field office nearby I think that would help immensely in negotiating location so that you're still in an office, albeit not the HQ.
Thank you much!
Hi TechnoPanther, no, I never sleep and so I can respond to any lonely threads (like this one) at all hours of the night. Impressive, I know ;-)
More suggestions...
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
Unless you are aggressively being scouted by the company, can't imagine a huge corp like Apple or Microsoft will let you work fully remotely to do corp finance if none of their other employees are. Remote works fine when you're at 50% or less in the office, since they will have to Zoom people in anyway, but a team of 9-10 who is typically in the office won't be thrilled to have 1 person remote.
Pretty sure Elon is actively against WFH so cross Tesla off the list. I'd stick to jobs that are definitely remote, there are plenty, or you may find flexibility at a smaller firm. But expecting a massive firm to give a new hire a special exemption to be remote forever is pretty unlikely.
Think its better to work in the office anyway for a new company to actually meet people right - just my opinion
Totally agree, and on-site would be my preference. Unfortunately there just isn’t a large tech presence in the Philly area so remote roles seem like the only option. GoPuff is promising but besides that there isn’t much (unless you count Comcast as tech - lol)
That’s what I was thinking - thank you for your input :)
