Strategic Finance/ Strategy
I’ve noticed this is a career path that is rarely mentioned and is an absolute gem.
I just came over from a 2 year consulting stint. Previously did 2.4 years of IB.
Does anyone have any experience in this field? So far the hours are great and the works been engaging.
Do you have an mba or 4 years of experience? What is your comp?
125500 base
6-15% bonus
Hcol or lcol?
I have over 4 years of experience with no MBA.
HYPS undergrad
(Ignore my title I’m not an MD)
What level can a PE sr associate/VP (5-6 years of total work experience) expect to join and at what comp?
why do you find the role engaging?
what’s the career trajectory?
thanks!
Probably 210-250 as management / VP. You can probably negotiate pretty heavily. Everyone is prior IB/MBB and one guy is a prior entrepreneur who sold his company. It’s definitely an interesting crowd.
Work is special projects that can add value to the company. You could be calculating the impact of trade (shortages) or calculating margins on the thousands of products and recommending ways to improve. You work with the C-suite and board so it feels better than just editing pitches or models in IB. You’re treated as a mix of M&A and internal consulting. It’s a lot of meetings and requests for work that haven’t been done with little data. I enjoy the problem solving.
Promotions tend to be quicker than traditional corporate development.

great to see you are enjoying it!
What type of modeling is typical of strategic finance roles?
