Strategy / Bus Dev Pay at Director Level

Hi All,

what is the scale of pay for strategy planning / business development guys at tech giants like Cisco, Microsoft, etc at the director level with top consulting+top MBA background?

Thx for your reply!

I'm also interested.

How popular is an exit from consulting / banking into relatively high-level strategy positions in F500's? Also, what kind of pay scale and future opportunities would one expect from such a transition?

of course this depends on the company in terms of size, profitability, growth, etc. and the nature of the internal strategy group (high profile and across BUs? A small team just for the CEO or CFO? nature and breadth of work, etc.). Typically these groups are always staffed with A) Former top-tier mgmt consultants and i-bankers and B) very talented internal folks cherry picked into the group.

At a F500 tech like the companies you mentioned, Director-level (pre-VP, post Senior Manager) pay would likely be a base of anywhere from $200 to $400k and total comp (bonus, stock, add'l award, car, etc) in the $300 to $500 range.

At VP, you'd likely see a lot more in terms of bonus and perks (car, clubs, add'l family benefits, etc.)

Would focus on joining one of these groups only if the groups prerogative is to be a fast-track program for bringing in/harvesting talent that will then lead in the field after 2-4 years. Otherwise it's just a waste land for people wanting a "better lifestyle" than consulting while having few exit ops.
