Strategy consulting to equity research
Hello all,
Sorry if this is a question that has been asked many times before, if so please fire away trolls.
Is it possible to move from a strategy consulting firm (e.g. Roland Berger, L.E.K., Booz) to equity research in a major bank?
After 2+ years in consulting I find that the research is one of the more enjoyable parts of my work and I would be interested in specialising in some of the areas I have already covered such as surface transport or defence.
Any information that is London specific would be great.
Thank you for your help,
Would love to get a perspective on this too from people in the industry. Im at a similar management consulting shop and have been trying to break into ER for a couple months now but have had trouble getting interviews. Resume has been reviewed by a professional and seems to be as close as possible to the role given my background but still no dice. For some context, 2+ yrs in consulting with a promotion and pre-MBA.
It will definitely help if you have knowledge of a sector that you are applying for. Sanford Bernstein is known hire people from industry and consultants.
Definitely. Having any sort of expertise in an industry gives you a leg up vs candidates w/a finance only background. At least in our shop.
