Strategy& vs Amazon Offer
Hi All,
I have full time post MBA offers from Strategy& and Amazon(Senior Product Manager role)
I would like to get your input regarding these two opportunities.
1- The Strategy& brand name (especially after the PwC merger) vs Amazon brand name
2- Strategy& would be tech strategy work vs systems/engineering focussed work at Amazon
3- Salaries are on par over 4 years, with advantage to Amazon
4- I am looking to spend 4 years at a minimum with either company
5- I would ideally like to exit into growth strategy/biz dev for a mid-stage tech startup
6- Work-life balance is equally bad with both
Whats your take guys? which firm will put me in a better position 4 years down the road?
"4- I am looking to spend 4 years at a minimum with either company"
Ha, good luck with that at Amazon
@mba_consultant : Can you elaborate please ?
"3- Salaries are on par over 4 years, with advantage to Amazon"
This seems inaccurate? Booz (Strategy&) will definitely pay more all-in, unless you got an offer outside of on-campus recruiting based on previous experience..
@"OpsDude" : The numbers are accurate. This particular Amazon offer was on-campus and was specific for their tech products based on my work exp. ( hence higher comp than other roles)
Are you including bonus? Strategy& is ~$200k after year-end and signing, with pretty big year over year salary increases, would be pretty surprised to see Amazon beat them there.
Strategy& despite how silly their name is now.
I'm also interested in forum members' perspectives on this topic. I'm currently in process with Amazon for Sr. PM role, Microsoft for a Biz Dev role, and Oliver Wyman. I also have an offer from Humana's corporate strategy group.
The answer is completely dependent on your exit job. While Amazon carries more clout in most tech circles, since you're saying strategy/biz dev, I would go with Strategy&. Most corp strat/biz ops roles in tech look for ex-consultants, so your Sr. PM experience (while useful in other tech roles) would be mostly moot in that regard.
To clarify an earlier post, Amazon has fairly large attrition which is why they backload a lot of their RSU comp. If you make it to four years, pat yourself on the back.
Two different roles and industry, I can speak for PM because that's my background and I was actually looking to go consulting before I chose PM. First off if your into products and making things, you should definitely go PM. I will say having a product & operation background is more advantageous for growth and strategy at a start-up, because I think it's really important to understand the product both from the engineering and user perspective, along with how to build and ship products... at the end of the day you can build products no one wants to use.
However if your leaning more towards biz dev, consulting may be a better option...
i doubt that Amazon pays more
i doubt work life is comparable (Amazon work/life, while bad by corporate standards, is still definitely better than consulting)
trust me on both of these. if you want more details let me know
