Stretching the truth on Resume

Hi all,

I graduated with an MS in Real Estate in May and haven't been able to secure a job yet. During my program I did 3 internships in my field (all with small RE firms), and prior to grad school I worked a handful of years in a different industry but with some relevant skills.

I'm starting to think having "intern" on my resume is hurting my chances, even for analyst positions. I even had one hiring manager tell me "we're looking for someone with a little more non-internship experience". A lot of the job descriptions for Analysts ask for 1-3 years of experience. I think with Real Estate being an industry that operates on relatively small deal teams, there is a lot of scrutiny that goes into each hiring decision. It probably also doesn't help that I'm in NYC, one of the most competitive job markets in the world.

My question is, how risky would it be to list the most recent internship as being a full-time Analyst position and listing it as my present place of employment? I was effectively doing Analyst-level work at all of my jobs and I'm able to explain in detail about different deals I've worked on. I feel like this would boost my chances in a tough job market.

Another concern of mine is the widening gap of unemployment since college. I'm worried companies may start to wonder why I haven't been able to find a job since May.

Appreciate any input
