Struck Out on SA Recruiting
Hey all,
Unfortunately, I did not land a summer analyst role for summer 2020 despite attending a few super days. So, I accepted an internship with a F500 company (leader of their industry with consistent growth) where I will be a part of their FP&A team.
While I am thankful that I am able to work for a great company this summer, I still have a desire to work in IB in the future and I am wondering what I should do during/after this summer to put myself in the best position for FT recruiting next year (2021). Are there transferrable skills from FP&A to IB Analyst positions? Will investment banks give me a chance without SA experience? If not, then is graduate school my best option?
Any advice would be really appreciated.
My background: Non-target state school, 3.75 GPA
FT recruiting for BBs and EBs will be rough if you work in fp&a but definetly keep in touch with all the people you've networked with this past cycle. Additionally, you can still look for boutique offers (even now), many boutiques hire in the spring.
I appreciate the input. I figured it would be really tough to break into, especially since my alumni connections on Wall Street are essentially non-existent. Definitely will continue to network/maintain my current connections. Which boutiques do you think I would have the best chance at?
