Successful Resume Database
So I've seen a lot of people on here ask for resume advice, but most of us never hear how the story ends. Not only that, but it's not not helpful for future applicants... who knows if that advice was any good? So my idea is this: I think it would be really helpful for you guys to post your resumes (obviously with all personal information removed) that have SUCCESSFULLY landed you an interview, as well as what company/role you applied to, just so people could see what is proven to work. Thanks! Hope this can help some people out. And again, if you're going to do this, please don't put up any personal information or things that could obviously identify you, like don't say the exact company, but give hints (i.e. don't name a bulge bracket bank, just say "top BB" or "top consulting firm" you guys get the idea
Anything at all helps here
theaccountingmajor,
I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you. I don't think this would be very useful at all.....Here's why:
I think that each persons resume is unique to that person. Hypothetically if we take away all networking efforts how do we know what makes our resume stand out to hiring managers? You have the usual suspects such as top school, multiple relevant internships, top grades etc, but besides that what will do it? This is where I think it becomes unique. Maybe the hiring manager is an alumni from the school I am attending and that's what made him give me a call back, maybe I studied abroad and the hiring manager studied abroad in the same city, maybe I volunteered in the big brother big sister organization and the hiring manager was apart of that growing up and it holds a soft spot for him.....There is a ton of variables that can't be accounted for when you successfully get a job.
Now what maybe you meant is for poeple to post something like this: School: GPA: Internships: Organizations:
Which I've seen in old forums I used to frequent such as collegeconfidential. If that is something your'e looking for then past threads should have plenty. Again not trying to be rude or shoot down your idea, that's just my opinion on it.
I see your point, and I understand your comments about uniqueness, etc. BUT - I think there is a sort of objectivity when it comes to resumes. Meaning - you could have 2 people with the IDENTICAL intenships, school, clubs, etc. But if one person words it better/formats it better, and gets the job over their counterpart, you can sort of narrow it down as to what keywords, order, and such will increase the likelyhood of a job in a certain industry. Furthermore, for the most part, HR won't even read your resume at first, it needs to get past online scanners, in which case, (unless you networked to get your resume in someone's hands), objectivity can be determined.
If you are that worried about formatting there's a resume guide/template on here. Most of the time your schools career center will do a decent enough job. Are you trying to figure out a way to game the system to where the resume system online hits on certain keywords that will get your resume past the computer and in to someones hands?
I'm honestly just trying to get the info like you said - internships/gpa/school/involvement/leadership and eventually the offer - I just figured having the full resume would be an added bonus because you could see how things are worded and formatted
