Hip Cocktail Attire?
I have a sell weekend coming up - and one of the evening activities says "hip cocktail" attire. Is this just a dark suit with no tie? Thanks!

Seersucker suit, flannel shirt, striped tie, white shoes, polka dot handkerchief.
Technically it's "business casual", but wearing a seersucker suit sounds boss. A little cold for seersucker though?
I would be skeptical of any firm that puts hip cocktail attire on their sell invite. Probably just a slightly unhip HR lady but still. Jeans and a button down. Hip means the jean can be skinny and button down plaid.
"hip cocktail"...my lord. thats a new one for me. I would wear a pair of dark, non-distressed jeans with a jacket and a button-down or just a suit with no tie. The whole thing is fucking idiotic though...a definite pet peeve of mine is ridiculous attire categories on invites.
Suit advice for holiday season (galas, parties, etc..) (Originally Posted: 11/18/2015)
I have an evening cocktail reception coming up and need suit advice (its in manhattan). I would like to rock my best which would mean a blue or a charcoal (3 button). Is black the way to go however? I really dont like the look of black suits but I dont want to look informal. Thoughts?
Also, the above question applies to the company holiday party as well as an evening charity event I have later this year. need suggestions on shirt and tie as well. Thanks for dressing me!

ok now a serious answer: use google.
ok now a really serious answer: wear blue or charcoal, a dark suit with a white shirt and dark tie is plenty formal. also, you shouldn't have a 3 button suit unless you're over 6 feet tall or want to look like steve harvey.
it's a cocktail reception, not the Oscars. chill out bronah hill
I think I need that for my company party
You mostly answered your own question. I'd also talk to anyone else you know who is going to determine whether a black tie or conservative work tie would be more appropriate. Other than that there's no real ambiguity.
Everyone else gave good advice but on the side: Trade out those 3 buttons for double breasted with pinstripes, your MD won't stop complementing you.
Call me ridiculous, but I actually like the look of double breasted suits. I agree, though, they aren't very appropriate for many settings.
OP, I would just wear the charcoal suit/white shirt/dark tie. That's the safest combo, imo.
