Summer Analyst at X Firm, "trading up" to Y Elite Boutique Firm

Hi Monkeys,

I received an offer to work at an Investment Bank this Summer. I'm coming from a non-target, so this is an amazing opportunity for me. By no means am I unhappy with the bank or the group I will be working in (Middle Market Group).

My question is, can I use this experience & potential FT offer to "trade-up" during the FT recruiting season? Ideally, i would be applying to Elite Boutiques in NYC. The goal would be to put me on a steeper & more accelerated learning curve. I recognize that any Investment Bank is going to invest time and energy into cultivating its youth, but working on a leaner team with superior senior leadership is not something every bank can offer.

Are their any reasons that trying could be a bad idea. Some of the things I thought of were:

1.) It stigmatizes you as a candidate because you're perceived as not having firm loyalty
2.) Current Bank could find out (doubtful they would)

I really appreciate any feedback or insight you guys can offer. Thanks.
