Summer Analyst positions, and when they open
I have talked with analysts from various firms, and most of them have said they dont start recruiting until late December and January.
Is this pretty much true for all IBD analyst?
Or are only the BBs going through recruiting right now?
I've been in contact with UBS, Merill Lynch and MSSB, all have said they don't currently have positions or don't know what the situation is and to contact them in the spring. I plan on contacting the same people I talked to early-mid January. UBS wanted my resume and cover letter to "keep on file", whenever I hear that I imagine they never look at it again.
If you're not going for BB, it's never to early to start reaching out and the earlier the better. That way you have more time to keep following up with them until your name is ingrained in their mind (hopefully right next to the word intern). I already have an interview with an IB/WM firm in LA when I come home from thanksgiving next week, 3 hours after I get off the plane. Never too early.
MM firms and boutiques typically range from now until May. BBs usually stat on December / January.

I'd say most formal recruiting takes place December/January. Now is some first round phone screenings and a lot of informal recruiting- networking, talking to HR people, etc. Like was said above, it is never too early to start.
I hear DLJ is taking on summer interns.
.
I'm currently talking to MS, Barclays, CS, BAML, GS, and JPM out of the bulge bracket, however none are doing official interviews besides GS until Jan. The review process for all are beginning early december through early january.
This is definitely not true^^ MS and Barclays certainly doing interviews before January
interesting... b/c besides the early day at MS on the 30th they aren't reviewing apps till mid-December. and the 21st of Jan is when Barcap said they will be informing people on there status...
^ this is not true. BarCap hasn't even started doing anything besides accelerated interviews (and they hardly do any accelerated processes compared to GS and others).
OCR happens early january for most of the BB's/boutiques and mid january for the mm's. a lot of the spots are taken up right now by the women leadership and diversity programs/accelerated people.
In the grand scheme of things this is a pretty small portion of the total spots. Maybe 25% (that would be on the high end). No bank wants to take too many accelerated candidates when they know they have a huge group they have not yet seen.
