Summer Analyst Positions - Any chance of getting an IB internship?

Hi everyone, I'm new here so I hope I'm posting this in the correct place and if not could someone please point me in the right direction.

Do you have a chance of getting an IB internship simply through applying on their website without having any connections? I'm curious to hear stories or peoples thoughts. I'm a Junior at a non-target school, in my honors business program, majoring in Finance, minoring in Math and Economics with a 3.90 GPA.

I've applied for IB, Equity Research, Wealth Management, and a plethora of other positions at every BB bank and a few MM banks. Do I have any shot?
Thanks for the help!

For full time (a couple years ago) I got interviews just by applying online with no connections, including Blackstone PE & GS, so I'm sure online applications are also viewed for internships too.

IMO, networking is overrated. I'm sure it can help, but I got the interviews without it. A lot of people say firms don't even look at online applications, but a lot of them definitely do (though I'm sure they use filters to screen GPA and work experience).

Coming from a non-target though, networking is probably more valuable to you. Also, your chances are not going to be great just applying online unless you had a very sold internship last summer, in which case you'll be fine.

Unfortunately I have no relevant work experience. I have a good GPA and good finance related extracurricular involvement.

Is relevant work experience really that important when looking for internship? I don't know anyone that has relevant work experience prior to their first internship. I'd assume they'd focus more on GPA and extracurricular since it's an entry internship, I don't know much though so I'm trying to find the truth here :D.

Thanks for your response.

Yeah the sophomore internship you had is extremely important when applying to junior internships. When I went through the recruiting process for summer analyst positions, it was a more important factor than GPA (on-campus recruiting). If you didn't have a good internship, you won't get anywhere by just applying online without any connections.
