Summer Internship Blues
Hello all. This is my first time posting, however, I've been stalking the depths of WSO for quite some time. I'm a freshman at the University of Chicago with a 3.75 GPA. Like many first-years, I'm torn as to what I should go about doing this summer. I hope to break into consulting, however, I would like to keep IB prospects open by properly positioning myself. At this point, I am confident that I will be able to get an internship at one of the top 5 ad agencies (think Ogilvy, BBDO, Wieden, and etc.). Would it be more valuable to pursue that option and have such a reputable name on my resume or to go about trying to find whatever low-level finance related internship a freshman can scrap up? I am considering applying to the Barclay's Bootcamp, but I assume the chances of getting in are very slim given the high level of competition. If I get the ad agency offer, I would have to commit ASAP for various reasons. Thus, committing the the agency would prevent me from pursuing other options. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
