Summer Internship Options
I'm a junior from a non-target in the south (USA), and I've gotten offers from 2 very different internships for next summer.
Finance Operations
- Fortune 100 retail company
- Supports credit analysis, accounts payable, fraud prevention, billing integrity, commission processing, revenue assurance, payment management and controls, payroll operations, and collections strategies
- Located in a suburban city in the south near a larger city
- Would net me more earnings by the end of summer (lower cost of living, and relocation assistance is much higher)
- Could lead to full time offer following graduation
- I would have to renege my acceptance of their offer
Corporate and Investment Banking Operations
- Top 5 bank
- Supports S&T and securities activities, fixed income derivatives, real estate capital markets, credit and equity derivatives, exchange-traded futures and options, and foreign exchange
- I may be involved in FCM operations, FX operations, broker dealer, middle office, collateral management confirmations and derivatives settlements, prime services, product and strategic deliveries, process review and enhancement, and shared services
- New York City
- Would net me less earnings by the end of the summer (salary is higher but signing bonus is much lower, higher cost of living in NYC)
- Could lead to full time offer following graduation, 12 month program, 60-70k
My future goals are a bit of a question mark for now. I've begun to study material for full-time IB interviews, but I also recognize I may not get an offer in IB. I'm leaning towards choosing the CIB internship since that field seems to be more difficult to get into and have better post-internship opportunities. The plan is to use either internship to figure out if that is really the path I want to follow. Please share your thoughts
