Summer internships recruiting question
I go to a semi-target. All of the resume submission deadlines at my school for summer internships are February 15, but I see that a lot of people on here are already interviewing. Should I just wait til Feb. 15 or should I try other methods in order not "to miss the train"?
You must go to a school on a quarter system, so you have later deadlines. Just follow the resume submission deadline posted.
submit your resume as early as you can to maximise your chances of having it looked at. many BBs will have have finished their first rounds by feb 15.
what happens is that the BBs interview all the people they are interested in from target schools, then the spaces which havent been filled already are opened to non-targets.
alternatively you can claim you have an exploding offer - they often will fast track your application - it is fairly plausible since you are from a semi target.
i go to a target school where all the BB's recruit (not on the quarter system), and we don't start interviews until early february, so feb 15th might not be too late.
We're on a semester system. Bigdirs, it's good to know that i'm not alone on this. It's all BB banks for us as well, though not all of them come here for summer, but all of them come here for full-time. Also, by any chance, are the positions at your school for regional offices or for NYC?
I'm pretty sure that summer intern interviews at Penn don't start until early February...
Oh, ok, great. Thanks for your input guys. I can sleep at night now, at least until February.
I've been talking to some of my contacts and the one at UBS says they're pretty much done and the Merrill one says they've already had a superday. So... can anyone with more knowledge fill me in? I thought recruiting season was coming up, not already almost done.
I heard from an ML employee that they have filled all NY positions.
Well, that's just fucked up...
I was talking about summer positions, my friend's brother is a VP at Merrill
Could someone from a BB or someone from heavily-recruited schools with first-hand knowledge please confirm?
I come from a target ib school, and I can confirm that my school and most other main targets interview in early January (caveat: I'm talking about associates, so I'm not sure about analysts). Also, the banks do fill up their summer classes early. However, if they know they have a few other schools in mind that they want to interview at, and that those schools don't allow interviewing until February, banks will hold a few positions open for them.
Bottom line: you do have an advantage if you can interview early on, but positions may remain open especially if you're at a school with a decent relationship and recruiting history at a given bank.
my target school will not begin interviews until february, and a lot of people get BB positions. it may be that the banks just hold positions, but with many schools not even starting the spring semester until mid january, I find it hard to believe that SA classes are mostly full already.
I was talking about analyst positions, btw. So, we're getting conflicting reports right now...
Chicago regional offices have not filled classes nor are they even close to filling them. We are still making presentation rounds at target schools.
Thanks WizardofOz, there is hope still i guess. i'm starting to think that maybe most of NYC positions are being interviewed for presently, now the recruiting for regionals begins.
Well, all the aforementioned banks are coming to Penn to interview in early February. I did summer recruiting last year, and I believe my first interview was at the end of the first week in February. Obviously Penn sends a bunch of people to the banks, so I find it hard to believe that the banks are all full, yet they're all coming here to interview in a few weeks.
Maybe you're hearing that the class is full for non-targets? I'd imagine they keep spots open for the targets...
Well, that's the thing, that we do have schools coming here for summers, though not not as much as for full-time.
Back in my day, I interviewed for summer jobs in February, due to our school's long winter break. Absolutely every firm came to campus looking for summers, including all of the aforementioned.
