summer mentorship program
hey I'm a rising jr at a state school near the east coast UVA/UNC/Mich (a target I guess?). After my freshman year I did a diversity program with a BB bank (CS/BAML/Citi), interviewed for their sophomore program which I didn't get, and was in their summer mentorship program which I didn't really do much with (still talk to my mentor though).
I'm in the mentorship program again this year and I wanted to ask for some suggestions on how to get the most out of the program this year going into junior SA recruiting. Thanks
As background I have a 3.3-3.4 so I've been networking really hard (haven't missed an OCR event since freshman year; have met analysts/associates, directors and the head of GCM recruiting etc; and I'm pretty close our campus recruiter). I've been spending a few hours after work everyday to study for interviews (WSO, M&I and WallStreetPrep) since with my GPA I don't have room to miss one.
What's the mentorship program exactly, is it just like technical training and other interview prep type of stuff?
they connect you with an analyst or associate from your campus recruiting team and suggest you set up a call every 2 to 3 weeks. They have a long list of suggested topics (why Bank X, why banking?, what do you like/not like, mock interview, have them connect you with other people at the bank, etc). There's more stuff on the list than I imagine a busy analyst has time to go through with you so I'm trying to figure out how to most efficiently use the "face time".
What are you doing internship wise this season? I would strive to get on the phone with as many individuals as you can as well, especially with a lower GPA.

+1 SB for your username haha
haha thanks I made a typo but I guess you can't win them all. At least I won't serve time for securities fraud!
Better knock on wood to be safe.
Is this for BAML?
prob i know U Mich kids who did this at BAML
BB SA Mentor Program - What is it? (Originally Posted: 05/20/2014)
I will be starting my SA stint at a BB in New York in a couple weeks and I am wondering what this "mentor program" thing is.
HR has assigned mentors to each SA outside of their respective groups (I am in a product group and all of my "mentors" are in coverage groups). Can someone explain the point of this? HR did not do a very good job doing so.
I expect to work extremely hard this summer, and the fact that we are all required to meet with these "mentors" on our own time confuses me, and just seems like a hassle more than anything. Any insight on this would be helpful. Thanks
