Super Bowl Indicator

Millions of people will watch the Super Bowl this year rooting for their favorite team in hopes of receiving gloating rights, but according to the Super Bowl Indicator this game may have a bigger impact than you'd expect.

According to the "Super Bowl Indicator," a triumphant team from the old American Football League (now the American Football Conference, or AFC) foreshadows a down market, but a winner from the old NFL (now the National Football Conference, or NFC) means dust off your red cape, because the bulls are coming. As of January 2017, the indicator has been correct 40 out of 50 times, as measured by the S&P 500 Index – a success rate of 80%

Now obviously there's no actual intellectual explanation for this, and correlation doesn’t prove causation but it's still interesting. Do you think this is a valid reason for people otherwise indifferent to the outcome to pull for the Falcons?
