Superday: What is/was your selling point?
Hi Monkeys,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
Currently a junior at a target, facing late BB superday. Failed one superday already, didnt think the whole go over resume with no mistakes route would suffice to nail an offer because everyone at superday is strong. I met a girl that went to my school at 14, the other guy interned UBS and MS for freshman and soph summer. Just feel at the end of the day, I cannot be remembered by the bankers.
I might miss something for the superday, would anyone share your thoughts? Could really use your advice, thanks!
Are you an international student?
hope for the best, prepare for the worst. your chances are not good regardless what school/bank you are at. that's just the current recruiting climate. accept it, look for other opportunities
when I was interviewing undergrad my interests section helped me a lot. sure I studied my technicals and prepared months in advance but once I sat in the room, I made smart observations, and was able to connect with my interviewers on a personal level.
I got dinged from all of the 5 banks that i had superdays with and even had a bb invite me back for a second superday because they werent sure after the first one (non-target for s&t). I didnt prepare for the worst because i thought i could have at least landed one but boy did it fucking hit when i didnt land an offer . Whiskey5 got it right, dont get your hopes up. I sold myself as a person from a non-priveleged background who would bust his ass for them. I have 4 boutique ibd and s&t internships and played d1 hoops my freshman year. This didnt matter. My point is that you have control over your performance but it is a serious crapshoot. Exude some confidence, dont be nervous and just know your shit and hope you get lucky man. Best of luck dude. If god forbid you dont get this, keep hustling. Exactly what i did and i am still landing interviews. Its really late in the game and most banks have extended their sa offers so you have to be golden. Nail this bitch!
Every time you go in for an interview, make your goal to have interesting conversations with each of the people you speak to. yes - it's ultimately to land the offer, but if that's your mindset, you'll come across and boring and identical to everyone else. If you focus on having interesting conversations, you'll feel much more relaxed, while achieving your goal of being memorable. This particularly pertains to interviews with senior bankers, i.e. MDs. They've heard the same answers from hundreds of candidates over the years. You should strive to strike up interesting conversations with these guys - usually it's easiest to do it with them since they are actually the most chill folks in the office.
Be bright, energetic and sound excited to be there. As weird as it sounds, try and avoid talking about finance/banking, etc. Talk about random things, like interesting stuff about where you're from (if it's an interesting/international place), sports, etc.
