Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer to Retire

https://www.wsj.com/articles/supreme-court-justic…

WASHINGTON—Justice Stephen Breyer plans to retire, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said Wednesday, giving President Biden an opportunity to shore up the Supreme Court’s liberal wing with the promised nomination of a Black woman who could serve on the court for decades to come.

Not saying my opinions on this, but I just find it a little humorous that affirmative action will be used to appoint a justice to the Supreme Court that will rule on affirmative action.

Anyway, I wonder if any Biden nominee will pass as easily as Democrats think one will. I'm sure someone will pass confirmation in the next year (earliest GOP could take control would be Jan 1 23). I think it's totally possible it won't be as liberal a justice as suggested considering Manchin and maybe one or two others.

Manchin did confirm some of the shortlisted candidates with no issue, but that was for lower courts not the Supreme Court. I have no idea how this will go.

Maybe the current court would pull some roundabout measure blocking the government from considering race in appointments. I dunno, that's just a wild thought I had. Probably won't happen.

Nice of Breyer to do the responsible thing and step and let someone else carry on the liberal wing of the court.

People keep bemoaning how conservative the court has gotten, but few point out that Ginsburg (the cult hero) had plenty of time to step down during liberal presidencies to allow someone younger in to secure the position. However, despite her being a "liberal hero", she just seflishly couldn't let go of the power.

Referring to the political polarization in Washington and the unlikelihood that another liberal in her mold could be confirmed by the Senate, Ginsburg, the senior liberal on the nine-member bench, asked rhetorically, “So tell me who the president could have nominated this spring that you would rather see on the court than me?”

Yeah, just the ego and self delusion was incredible in quotes like that. Even if you couldn't get someone exactly like her appointed, wouldn't you rather appoint a 50-year moderate liberal rather than ACB????.....side note I personally love ACB, but just talking about obvious strategy if I was in the Dems' shoes.

Few point this out? This is regularly discussed in liberal circles and has been a criticism of RGB since Obama’s first term.

Yes, may be discussed but rarely when they're buying dolls and t-shirts with her image...

EDIT: Now that I think of it, maybe, I should get an RBG tshirt since she set up a conservative Supreme Court so well!

Sources say the administration is picking a black female.

Fulfilling his campaign promise that he would specifically pick a black female.

Would love to see this get stalled out by some Democrat holdouts that Biden's pissed off and watch nothing get confirmed after the mid-terms. Cherry on top of this admin's epic ice cream sunday failure.

Sad to see. Instead of picking the most qualified person for the vacancy, Biden is playing identity politics. He and the democrats preach that discrimination is wrong, but it's okay when he does it. Such hypocrisy

“Trump promises to pick a woman to fill Supreme Court vacancy” surely you were just as outraged then?

I'm not "outraged" by what's happening now or then lol. I'm honestly detached and don't support either mainstream political party. But yes I thought it was bs that he had to pick a woman just because RBG died. Should've just went for the best person and if it happened to be a woman, so be it. ACB has been fairly mediocre in her decisions so far. The only Trump nominee that I think is consistently doing a good job is Neil Gorsuch. Kavanaugh is not great on the 4th amendment.

The left believes that nothing is ever just & everyone must kneel down & prostrate themselves to acknowledge their priverlage. It's right in line with a move like this

Good news though is this doesn't tilt the balance of the court at all. Hopefully one of the conservative older justices (maybe Alito or Thomas) retires in the next Republican admin and we can lock in a Republican court to provide at least some checks & balances vs the disastrously free-wheeling alt left

What in the actual fuck is this woke left extremist corruption of western culture?

As soon as affirmative action was about to end, a stinky african "human" is appointed as a lawmaker.

What an utter disgrace. This is why I've stayed far away from the filth in the New World, preferring the ivory towers of Whitehall and Brussels.
