Taking networking further than the informational.

So I've spoken to a few bankers but I seem to be having trouble turning those chats into interviews or getting them to push my resume.

Is there something I'm missing in the entire process or is it supposed to feel like I'm just interviewing a bunch of people?

It should feel like they are interviewing you as much as you are interviewing them.

Make sure you do something that will:

  1. Make you think that you are something other than the other guy trying to get into working for their company
  2. Make a substantial connection such that they will remember you (and I mean this in a positive way; there are far more ways for them to remember you for being a total hardo or doing something wrong)

Something else I like to do is ask good questions. Not things like "HoW's thE CulTuRe aT YOUR bAnK?" People hate that kind of question. Read the person you're talking to and ask the kinds of questions that they might be finding intriguing.

I work for a pretty intellectual company, so I might ask someone at my firm "What's your favorite finance book?"

When I was working at an EB, I had a call with someone who was in the NFL, and asked them, "How and how much do you get to work out?" I heard wonderful stories about the new company gym and the former NFL player getting to meet the EB CEO there
