Taking the GMAT as Backup

I was wondering if anybody had opinions on taking the GMAT without current plans to ever attend business school. I have one semester of undergrad left and a signed offer to start as a trading analyst after graduation. I want to be a trader and don't plan on changing careers except possibly an eventual move to the buy side. Would it make any sense to take the GMAT now since I'm still in school as a backup in case trading doesn't work out? I feel like it might be a good insurance policy but it costs a bit of money to prepare for and take, as well as a lot of time and effort that could be spent elsewhere.

I can't offer much advice on how good an insurance policy it might be... it totally depends on what score you get and which path you take - whether or not you go to Business School.

One question that comes to mind is: why put yourself through the hours/stress on the GMAT if you have no plans to go do an MBA?

Speaking from experience, the GMAT is not an exam to take lightly, I've gone through a couple of methods of tackling the exam (Unsuccessfully) and recently been taking online courses, etc, you name it, to finally put the GMAT behind me in early 2018.

I think you should focus/enjoy the last bit of your undergrad and reconsider the GMAT at a later stage.
