Target MSF/MMS to IB?

Thanks for the advice so far WSO

I've just been accepted into an MSF/MMS program at a target school (Both Undergrad and MBA program are targets). I have some Financial Advisor experiences at a Fortune 75 company. The program starts in the summer so wasn't able to get a Summer Analyst role before the program starts. Given my experience, do I have any shot at IB coming from an MSF/MMS program at a target school?

Man there's no target MSF AFAIK (I'm be in a MSF too). Just do networking and OCR.
Correct me if I’m wrong but Princeton and MIT MSFs, UVA, Duke, and Mich MMS are all targets in the sense that their undergrad and mba programs each have a large number of Wall Street firms recruiting on campus every year. But they don’t really come looking for MSF/MMS students since the standard way into IB is to do an internship. In undergrad and MBA programs you can do an internship but in MSF/MMS programs it’s harder because most of them are all 1 year programs so you’ll either have to do one before the program starts or during the program.

You can def get front office spots from one of those places. One of the biggest issues will be the internship. My rec is to spread your MSF out over 3 semesters so you can do a summer internship. That’s what I did and it worked out great (my group ended up letting me start as a FT analyst the Feb after my internship since I graduated in Dec).

This can also be an expensive option since these programs aren’t cheap. What I did was finish up all of my required classes in one year and then that last semester after my internship I was a research assistant and TA for one of my MSF professors so I didn’t have to spend any money on classes.

Although these schools are target schools, this does not extend the same way to the MSF programs. You’ll still need to reach out and network although if you’re at MIT/Princeton, the name brand will extremely beneficial for your purposes.
