TCU or UT Dallas or University of Denver MS in Accounting?

Hi guys,

I’m an international student. I have been accepted for the Master of Science in Accounting from UT Dallas, TCU, and University of Denver. Which school has the highest CPA exam pass rates? Which one has a good reputation, especially in the job market? Hopefully I could get some suggestions from your guys. Thanks so much!

I wouldn't focus on the CPA passing rates. If you commit to passing and you work hard at it, then you will. You might want to focus on something more tangible, like the fact that girls at TCU are smoking hot. I would know, I grew up down the street.

And, by the way, good for you for posting about a school other than Princeton or Yale on this forum. I'm surprised you haven't been lambasted by some BMW driving 23 year old who is only really sure about one thing in life--that his firm ranks highly on the league tables.

Try to get some ECs at TCU, like equipment manager for the softball team.

A school that managed to find softball players that attractive is impressive.

Further TCU: http://meetthematts.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/hot-tcu-cheerleaders…

On a serious note, I don't know the strength of either of these programs. Try to call and ascertain their placement statistics. Being in Texas would be good because their economy is doing very well and thus getting a job is a bit easier.

Thanks for your advice, guys. I love Dallas. TCU has a smaller class size so student can get more personal attention. UTD SOM has a recent surge in rankings. They have surpassed SMU for graduate business school. Being new to the DFW area, my question is this: which schools have powerful alumni network, mentoring program, job bank, and other things outside the regular curriculum?

I didn't live in Texas for a long time, but in terms of powerful alumni network, SMU and Texas A&M trumps anything I've ever seen. Those folks are like a mafia and a cult. Heck, the deep pocket alums at SMU broke all the rules trying to get their football team to win. They are incredibly loyal.

However, if UT-A, aTm, and SMU are totally off the table, then of the ones you mentioned, definitely TCU. With their football success, there's a lot of school pride there which bodes well for the whole alumni network angle. UTD's rep is not there at all (are they really above SMU?) and I have no insight on U. Denver.

I would choose TCU based on their alumni network and connections. Yeah, you’re right, dude. SMU is still the best place to network. But the U.S. News and World Report ranks SOM as 37th and Cox as 54th among the top 100 in the nation. But for now, I still saw SMU has a better program. University of Denver also has many successful alumni, such as, Brad Anderson, former CEO, Best Buy, Jim Lentz, President, Toyota USA, and Condoleezza Rice, former U.S. Secretary of State under President G.W. Bush.
