Why is Deutsche so middle-heavy?
It's clear to see that even after deep cuts in their Investment Bank, specifically, in Global Markets, Deutsche has a lot more MDs & Directors than most other banks. In fact, there are relatively few Analysts on the desks.
I have a few friends at Deutsche in London that confirm this to be true too.
My question is why? Do all these expensive MDs & Directors bring in so much business? Directors are judged almost solely on their ability to bring in business & show potential to be a future MD. Why are there so many of them at Deutsche?
I see this across many lagging European banks, part of it is likely due to DB excessively promoting people to retain talent when bonus pool shrinks. Pure speculation and would love more input on this
that makes sense tbf. But then, I've heard only good things about bonuses at Deutsche, especially for the top performers. For me, it seems as though Deutsche is still the top paying European bank & on par with many Americans.
it’s one of those banks that try to lure in talent with higher fixed pay and lower bonus especially for seniors, junior level bonus isn’t great but somewhat on par is what I’ve heard
Soc Gen in the US has the same issue. So many people are MD/VP, etc, but I have no idea wtf they do.
