Thank you gift ideas

Hey guys,

I'd like to get a thank you gift for someone who pulled for me during the IBD recruitment process.
I was thinking perhaps a bottle of whisky or some good chocolates. I am a total noob when it comes to whisky. Any suggestions re: what is appropriate? I am looking for something good that doesn't scream college-student-who-ran-down-to-the-dep but not a $1000 bottle either.

Appreciate any help!

i think gomes is on the right track here...if you're farther away from him, go ahead and send him a gift certificate or a nice bottle of wine, etc

also, if you know hes a huge angler or golfer or whatever, its nice to send something relating to that hobby

however if you really want to show your gratitude, a hooker and a few grams should do the trick too...

Don't make it a permanent object eg something that he has to find a place for, has to wear or has to read. This is just a potentially unwanted gift that risks him/her feeling awkward about when he throws it out and has to pretend he valued when he sees you next.

Make it a consumable eg bottle of good whisky or wine. Even if he/she doesn't drink, a good bottle of whisky or wine is a useful gift as he can re-gift it or turn up at a dinner party with, even if he won't consume it himself.

If you think the guy is 'that' sort of guy, get him a box of cigars.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Well its just weird I guess, Like what would you want if you were on the other end? If I pulled for some kid who was genuinely interested and pretty cool to talk to, it would just be a normal thing you know? I'd love a handwritten note but a gift would be like "ok?"

Send a thank you note, or if is a female, you can send a thank you card.

Only reason I would differentiate between a female/male for a thank you card is from my experience it seems like women react much more warmly to cards then men. With a guy, a note would probably be more personal.

In both cases, make sure you write something more than "Thanks for all the help." You want to convey how they made a very positive impact, and not by getting you an interview but just from conversations/mentorship/willingness to help.

Drop a nice big tip with a note for the next drink night to be on you...or gift card for similar experience

As a former barista, this is where it's at. Seriously though just saying thanks is enough, but if you want to give them more money they won't turn ya down.
